傳統藝術 Traditional Arts
Ethan: I noticed that there are many traditional folk arts in Taiwan.
Laura: There sure are. They include painting, carving, dancing, and so on.
Ethan: But with TV, the Internet, and other new attractions, have some traditional art forms declined in popularity?
Laura: Some of the arts such as puppetry and lion dances are having a bit of trouble. However, during the last few years, cultural life in the cities has improved a lot.
Ethan: Are we talking about modern culture, like theater, music, and so on?
Laura: I mean all kinds of culture, Chinese and Western, modern and traditional.
Ethan: Are there any steps being taken to save the disappearing arts?
Laura: The government is trying to promote the arts throughout Taiwan. This includes building a lot of cultural centers, supporting emerging art groups and holding lots of festivals and exhibitions.
Ethan: I heard that traditional arts have also adopted Laura: modern ideas to present a new appearance.
Laura: Yes, the performing arts use modern technologies and even Western materials in order to attract young people.
Some of them are very successful.
Ethan: I have also heard about many interesting festivals related to traditional arts.
Laura: Yes, for example, there is the International Children's Folklore & Folkgame Festival in Yilan on the east coast.
