Glasgow is an old port city often overshadowed by the more famous Edinburgh. However, visitors to Scotland would do well to keep this city in their plans. Its a cultural center famous for its scenery, music, and art. Glasgows 90 parks and gardens are full of green plants that give the city its name, which means Dear Green Place in Gaelic. Taking a tour of the city to enjoy all this scenery is a must for visitors. Start in the west in Kelvingrove Park to enjoy its peaceful ponds and historic buildings. Then, make your way north to the Botanic Gardens, which is famous for its beautiful glasshouses and a variety of flowers. On the banks of the River Clyde is the oddly shaped Riverside Museum, which houses all different kinds of transport from skateboards to steam trains. Inside is also an old cobbled street area with shops from the 19th and 20th centuries. Just outside is the Glenlee, or The Tall Ship, a 19th-century ship that has sailed around the world four times! Visitors can hop on and look around, even in the captains cabin. Both the museum and the ship are free to enter. |
